WWE WRESTLEMANIA IN VIRTUAL REALITY WITH NEXT VR
From a recent partnership made between leading sports entertainment company, WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment and NextVR, leader in VR event broadcast, fans were able to witness the grandest show in sports entertainment, as if there were actually there.
Held during the pre show of the annual event, fans and new viewers were able to view 10 minutes of the event, with an additional extended app experience,“featuring highlights from WWE’s biggest events including the excitement of the fans, athleticism of WWE’s larger-than-life Superstars, pivotal moments, epic showdowns and surprise appearances, giving them the opportunity to see the action as if they were there live.”
NextVR CEO, David Cole, stated “WWE is amazing in VR, and we know fans are going to love it,”,and emphasised how “patented VR broadcasting pipeline will bring fans ringside with WWE Superstars to experience the electrifying energy and spectacle firsthand.”
Michelle Wilson, WWE Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer, said “we are always looking to create compelling content across platforms, and we are excited to partner with NextVR to bring our fans closer to the action than ever before,” and “as the technology behind virtual reality continues to evolve, this is a unique opportunity for us to partner with NextVR, a leader in this space, to provide new experiences to our passionate fans around the world."
The experience was created in a partnership venture, where NextVR, were able to position their custom VR cameras throughout the event, as the full event was also made available to viewers, to watch entirely in virtual reality.
The experience is available on GearVR, PSVR or Windows Mixed Reality, via the NextVR app
As someone who has had the pleasure to have been at several WWW Wrestlemania events, I can attest how amazing the experience was to be there again, and I would most definitely want to continue to consume content in this way. It not only engaged me far more in the event, but it allowed me to gain memories from an event, as If I had actually been there. The out of body experience of immersion is still startling at times, especially when moments you have experienced before are replicated in VR. It blurs the lines between reality and virtual reality in a very interesting and innovative way.
I was also very pleased and humbled to have been showcased on NextVR’s social media platforms, at the actual start time of the event, which is watched across the world and trending worldwide. Connecting with NextVR, I informed them on how amazing the experience. I would like to assert this as an example of how important it is for students or creatives to have a social media presence or at the very minimum a social platform for communication, via Twitter. Not only was i able to connect with the creators of the experience, but more so, witness they leading the way in shared social experiences in virtual reality and the collective immersive experience.
