IN CONVERSATION WITH MALCOM MCDOWELL AT THE BFI

I recently attended a special Q and A event at the British Film Institute, London, which would honour the film career of Malcom McDowell and shed light on his iconic performance to Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.

It was an entertaining event, and provided a clear sense of Mcdowell’s most important work in A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick.

The event is part of a new season at the British Film Institute, celebrating the cinematic career of Stanley Kubrick, with a strand of his films, special related events and courses.

In the event, it was interesting to learn how Kubrick selected the iconic costumes for A Clockwork Orange, as well as get a strong sense of his personality from an actor, as well as his directing style. The event would be proceeded by a sold out screening of Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, and did meet McDowell briefly after the event.

It was also refreshing to return to British Film Institute, one of my favourite film centres in the world, and visit their BFI store, exhibition and box office, to find out about their future events. I also very much enjoyed meeting an industry friend, Clare Dean, a former executive assistant at Paramount pictures and Frightfest Film Festival Producer, who i had first met the BFI, many years earlier. Clare, was incredibly helpful and supportive, early in my career and provided very insightful advice into my first documentary and short film, Father Figures.
