SAVE THE CINEMA MUSEUM

The Cinema Museum has been “in residence at the former Lambeth Workhouse for over 20 years. Following the recent sale of their building and the surrounding site, the long-term future of the Cinema Museum is still not confirmed.

London’s Cinema Museum is a fantastic venue and learning centre, devoted to keeping the sprits of cinema from the days before the multiplex alive. Set in historic surroundings in Kennington, close to the Elephant & Castle, the Museum now “establishes its permanent home in the Victorian magnificence of the old Lambeth Workhouse, where Charlie Chaplin spent time as a child”.

The Cinema Museum displays a unique collection of artefacts, memorabilia and equipment, with the intention to “preserve the history and grandeur of cinema from the 1890s to the present day.”

Guided tours are also available, when pre booked and the museum also host a variety of events offering regular talks, screenings, store sales, presentations and even immersive events.

i was proud to be a part of an event in 2016 which offered a virtual reality horror experience with the London Screenwriters Festival and my studio, ERA Film Studios and co-hosted an immersive British horror event experience.

I also attended their Save The Museum events for the public to offer my support and insight into the on going discussions. The Cinema Museum. From entering the doors, visitors experience the grandeur of golden age Hollywood and are immersed in an enclave of artefacts from the silver screen. To the right there is a small cinema and continuing on a red carpet to the opening hall, there are so many fantastic pieces on display all the way up to the first floor where visitors can see a collection of Charlie Chaplin memorabilia. The main room houses a giant screen and visitors can also sit and relax, grab a coffee, tea, drink or snack and just enjoy the space. The Cinema Museum is a must attend venue, which unfortunately is currently in threat of closure, and I encourage you to not only visit but support the museum through their Save The Museum campaign.
