VIRTUAL REALITY DIVERSITY INITIATIVE
The Virtual Reality Diversity Initiative was a one day free event for participants from under-represented groups looking to learn practical 360 film, Unity and Web VR skills. VRDI initiatives make VR accessible for everybody, where you can learn a new skill for the future, gain help to start their own company or incorporate this new learning into their existing business
From VRFocus, “Before the 19th of October, the participants who chose to participate in the 360 Film workshop were sent several questions before attending.
What previous film-making experience do you have?
What drew you to the workshop and how might VR relate to your current practice / interests?
What are your expectations of the workshop & what would you like to get out of the day?
Depending on the answers from participants, Peter and Imogen tailored their workshop to meet the needs of participants. “
The VRDI Day was incredibly insightful in gaining a professional overview of Virtual Reality Filmmaking from leading British Media Company, Inition with Pete Collis. I had previously connected with inition and their team in regards to a virtual reality film project I had found very interesting.
The event itself, provided a broad understanding of how to use cinematic VR camera, the Insta360 Pro as well as collaborate with other creatives from diverse backgrounds to experiment in the medium. From a highly informative lecture series, we were given practical training in both the production and post production techniques of 360 degree Virtual Reality filmmaking.
I was so pleased to fund that my independent learning and practice was very much akin to a professional company, having recently created the first British Virtual Reality feature film. After the course finished, i continued to maintain a relationship with Inition and in particularly Pete Collis, who has been a terrific mentor and supporter of my work in the immersive medium. I owe a massive gratitude to VR Focus, the VR Diversity Initiative Team, inition and of course Pete Collis, for this transformative opportunity. In closing, events such as the VRDI are incredibly important in providing learning for those from diverse backgrounds, but even more so in bringing us together so we may continue to share our passions and overcome hurdles in the industry together. It is a fantastic opportunity and would most definitely recommend VR Creatives to explore how the initiatives such as these in the immersive industries are truly setting a foundation of equality, diversity inclusion and a new standard for creativity.
