Kandao QooCam Review
The Kandao QooCam was officially released in 2018 by Kandao, a leading cinematic virtual reality camera company. I had learned about their product after being recommended to use their Kandao Ovsidian Series for the first British Virtual Reality feature film. The price was too high for our experimental project but I was pleased to discover they would be releasing a new prosumer Camera which would be the first of its kind.
The QooCam is the first 360 monoscopic and 180 3D Stereoscopic Virtual Reality camera, and allows the user to use both in their productions. In addition, the camera has the latest in built depth technology to also provide added depth mapping to photos.
In addition, the camera, purchased early via Kickstarter also came with a Bluetooth remote, custom tripod and selfie stick as well as a custom Portable small VR headset and of course all necessary cables and product information.
One issue early on with the camera was a problem with the base plate which meant certain users experienced damage to their camera, I waited until the problems had been resolved to use the product but luckily the company sent out a replacement custom base plate to secure the camera.
It’s also important to note how helpful the Kandao community has been in terms of fixing the base plate issue but also providing me and the community with the latest information on the camera and best usage practices, in partucuarly Daisy Chen who helped with any questions or concerns I had.
